LQET: Lower Quarter Examinations and Treatments

This course covers clinical examination, manual therapy and exercise interventions for the entire lower quarter utilizing a clinical reasoning approach and functional movement assessment. The course considers the current literature relative to management of common musculoskeletal conditions of the lower quarter such as hip impingement, hip and knee osteoarthritis, patella-femoral syndrome, iliotibial band syndrome, plantar fasciitis, foot and ankle tendonitis / osis, knee / ankle instability, and ankle sprain. Further emphasis is placed on differential diagnosis and the influence of the lumbo-pelvic and SI joints, neural dynamics and biomechanical assessment of the lower extremity. The lab intensive course covers a variety of proven manual therapy interventions, exercise prescription and specific taping techniques utilized to achieve optimum patient outcomes. All required prereading material will be sent in a link via your registration confirmation email.

At the completion of this course, the participant will be able to:

  • To understand the reasoning processes which are relevant as part of the approach to Orthopedic Physiotherapy.
  • To understand the different reasoning categories, and how they tie in to a global picture.
  • To understand the model of pain and stiffness dominant conditions.
  • To be able to plan, select, progress and measure appropriate interventions based on these reasoning models.
  • Evaluate at least 5 different selective functional movement patterns in the LE.
  • Demonstrate a separate evaluation procedure for the hip, knee, ankle
  • Demonstrate at least 5 mobilization techniques to evaluate and treat ankle dysfunction
  • Demonstrate at least 5 mobilization techniques to evaluate and treat knee dysfunction
  • Demonstrate at least 5 mobilization techniques to evaluate and treat hip dysfunction
  • Demonstrate at least 5 different soft tissue mobilization techniques for the hip/knee/ankle to reduce spasm and pain
  • Assess at least 5 differences between a capsule, cartilage, bursa, ligament, labrum, and nerve problem at each lower extremity joint.
