This course covers clinical examination, manual therapy and exercise interventions for the entire upper quarter utilizing a clinical reasoning approach. The course considers the current literature relative to management of common musculoskeletal conditions of the upper quarter including shoulder impingement, rotator cuff syndrome, shoulder instability, adhesive capsulitis, nerve entrapment syndromes and tendonitis / osis.
This course does not have any prereading materials.
Course Objectives
At the completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
Understand the basic anatomy, kinesiology, and painful states related to the dysfunctions of the upper quarter.
Understand the mechanical and neural influence of central mechanisms on upper quarter pathology.
Implement and demonstrate proficiency in a comprehensive manual therapy based examination of the upper quarter.
Understand the principles of both regional interdependence and the tissue in lesion model as it relates to musculoskeletal dysfunction and symptoms in the upper quarter region.
Demonstrate proficiency in a variety of manual therapy treatment interventions of joint mobilization, manipulation and soft tissue mobilization.
Demonstrate a progressive plan of care for manual therapy and exercise interventions of the upper quarter.
Explain indication, adverse effects and safe practice of manual therapy within the scope of physical therapy practice.
