Derek Clewley


PT, DPT, PHD

Dr. Clewley is an instructor with Upstream Rehab Institute’s Ortho Residency, OMPT Fellowship, and continuing education programs.  He is an educator, clinical researcher, physical therapist, and mentor in the Duke University DPT program. His specific area of clinical expertise and training is orthopaedics and manual physical therapy. Dr. Clewley has achieved board certification in orthopaedics and is recognized as a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists.  He has a PhD with a primary interest in health services related research including the specific investigation of healthcare seeking behavior.  In addition, his peer reviewed publication record includes the interventional topics of manual physical therapy, dry needling, and pain sciences. His publication record also includes clinical practice guidelines and has presented nationally and internationally on the use and implementation of guidelines in clinical practice.  Dr. Clewley has extensive experience in the development of continuing education, residency, and fellowship post-graduate training programs.
