Richard A. Banton

Richard has been practicing physical therapy since earning his Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy from Shenandoah University in 1998. In August 2004, Richard completed his Transitional Doctorate Degree in Physical Therapy from Shenandoah University. Richard is currently pursuing a fellowship with the North American Institute of Manual Therapy (NAIOMT). Richard is recognized by NAIOMT as a Certified Manual Physical Therapist (CMPT). He is also recognized by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (AABPTS) as an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS). Richard has been certified by the National Athletic Training Association (NATA) as an athletic trainer since 1995.
Prior to attending Shenandoah University, Richard received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sports Medicine from Marietta College. He currently provides athletic training services for professional soccer teams in northern Virginia (Northern Virginia Royals and Majestics; www.novafc.com) His degrees in sports medicine and physical therapy allow him to work with several professional and amateur athletes from the Washington Redskins, NASCAR, Professional golf, college athletics, Olympians, and several local high school athletic teams.
Richard has served as co-clinic director for Virginia Therapy and Fitness Center since its inception in 2004. He has served as a primary author of multiple articles for The Spinal Research Foundation, www.spinerf.org, and is currently an adjunct professor for Shenandoah University. In 2012, Richard received the Outstanding Alumnus Award from Shenandoah University to honor his significant accomplishments in the profession of physical therapy. His primary goal is for the profession of physical therapy, healthcare providers, and patients to view Virginia Therapy and Fitness Center as the standard for high quality physical therapy care.
Richard’s commitment to quality is evidenced by combining trigger point dry needling, “hands-on” therapy, and evidence based exercise to achieve the best outcomes for his patients. He understands that each patient is unique and therefore deserves a treatment plan that is specific to their needs. Virginia Therapy and Fitness Center has proven to be the perfect place for this goal to be achieved.
